Room 8 News

This year Jordan is in Ms. Jacobs' class, in room number eight, at Loma Prieta Elementary School. Every week, Ms. Jacobs
helps the children publish "Room 8 News" - filled with the articles they write, photographs, charts, and drawings.
There will be a lot of reporting and essay writing this year. Jordan's work will appear on this page.

September:

We learned many things about story elements. A story has characters, a setting and a plot. A plot has a goal, obstacle, attempt, outcome and final result. The goal is what ever the character wants. The obstacle is what gets in the way of the goal. Attempt is the thing that blocks the obstacle. The outcome is how the attempt works. The final result is how the character feels at the end. We sure learned a lot about story elements.

All kids, grownups, and grandparents, we are here to discuss the endlessly interesting subject of net change. Here in room eight the kids are studying different changes in net change. These excellent 3rd and 4th graders are learning rapidly under the stern eye of Ms. Jacobs. How we do net changes is with positive and negative numbers as so: +2-2+1= a net change if -2 because +2 and -2 cancel each other out and +2-2+1-3=-2. That's all for now on math folks. I hope your looking forward to next weeks article and writer.

Nobody could believe the many ways people could use cups. Creating a shoe would be easy. It would be harder to make a fish tank. It would be easy to make a hat. Now we are armed with the knowledge to learn the many uses of a cup.
Here's something unusual to make with a cup. First tear the handle off. Better have a small head. Put it on your head. There's a hat, or cup sitting on anyone who tries to make this hat.
Something even more unusual to make. Rip the handle off. Better have small feet. Put it on you're foot. There's a shoe.
What about a fish tank? Take off the handle. Put in water. Drop in tiny fish. That's the smallest fish tank any body ever seen.
That's some of the unusual ways to use a cup. Try making a shoe. Maybe even a hat. What about the fish tank? There certainly are a lot of ways to use a cup.
