Tonight I sat and read to Jordan for a long time, he and I together
in my rocking chair. This in itself is not such an odd thing until all
of the circumstances are brought to light:
First, though he is a book lover, he is only two and a half.
Second, what we read was Charlotte's Web by E. B. White, a chapter book
with very few illustrations.
Third, the fact we read over fifty percent of the book this evening-
one hundred and four pages.
I think had time allowed, and my voice held up, we could have gone right
through to the end. He continues to astound me.
We watched bees in the flowers by the Co-op for the better part of forty
five minutes last week. Jordan was so intense. He was full of questions
and held the knowledge so well. He told a bee story when we got home.
It went like this..."about the one two three honey bees and the
big bumble bee-we waited and waited by the flowers but the big bee didn't
come back. The mama queen bee stays at home in the hive. Then the other
bees came back. They were taking some flower nectar back home to make
honey. And the baby bees said thank you for the honey to the other bees.
We needed a bee book. Jordan and Mama watched the bees. The bees danced
and buzzed stories to the baby bees."
He also tells lots of dinosaur stories (he knows so many of them by
their scientific names I find it hard to keep up; Louis is better at
that, having had a rather large dinosaur phase himself I've been told).
Those along with bits and pieces of other stories or poems he has heard
and things that happen day to day make up his repertoire. His funniest
dinosaur tale was told when he was loading dinosaurs into a truck and
I asked what they were doing. I was told "They are driving a long
long long way to Alaska to look for a new house for us". He stills
plays music with me from time to time-not as often or as long as I'd
like to be playing but it is as it is for now. He remains quite the
little bard.
Louis is going into "finals mode" for the last time....whooppeee!!
Our great move north is set for the twentieth of June. No word on where
we'll be next but one step at a time is fine by me.
Summer heat is coming on and packing must commence!
