The Jordan Harold Update

Now the Jordan is almost seven months old. He has learned and is practicing a version of the seal-flop; energetic and purposefully, he moves across the floor trying to get at the computer I’m working on. We are partners in a strange dance around the living room, to keep the computer safe and get this letter written out to you.

This letter will most likely be the last to come to you from this address. The Portland trip was a great success-although quite harrowing for Jordan and me. The poor little person was unable to nap for more than fifteen or twenty minutes at a time because we were always just moving on to the next thing we had to do. I felt awful about it but there was nothing to be done for it and he hung in there like such a trooper! The worst that happened was he got really silly and very loud the last couple hours of the day. I think the thing that saved him was that he is learning to sleep in the sling as we walk.

Two thirds into our trip, as I was almost out of hope of finding a suitable summer home for Louis, Jordan, our cat Bozo, and myself; Bill dropped me off in front of the Ione Plaza at 1717 SW Park and, as is said, there was room at the inn. We’re to be living on the sixth floor (#614) in a airy studio with a view of the campus park. It is a small place but very pleasant and for three months it should be fine.

The city of the roses gave us a lovely welcome. There was some rain but the sun came out and dried out the afternoons for us. The walk by the river is grand-paddle boat, sail boats, and rowers go by and somehow even bridge building seemed pretty in this place. We stopped by the zoo as well and spent the day with the animals as well as taking a train ride through Washington Park-a huge park that is rumored to have elk wandering in its deepest parts.
We’re all home now-happy to be there but excited about the coming summer up north and the chance to further explore Portland and more of Oregon as well.
