Date Line - about month ago:
As Jen has returned to full-time work (yah, the wild job-hunt
finally paid off) Rio the Red was left
alone at home for many hours of the day. So, it was decided that a canine
companion
should be found for our most worthy dingo dog.
A search followed, where a number of dogs were met but found lacking.
Jen had been taking a course at Marin
Humane, CITA (Consultant/Instructor Training Academy), and
one of the shelter-dogs her class evaluated was a sweet Australian Shepherd/Border
Collie cross
(or whatever they were making that day). She was gentle and had very good
dog to dog skills.
The short of it is - a week or so latter, after meeting our family members,
it was decided that she was the one
to be Rio's friend and our new dog.
She is around four years old (rather than the one or two
the shelter thought she was) and
has most likely spent most of her life in a backyard somewhere. So many things
are baffling,
or down right frightening, to her and she has no training at all. She has
so much lot to learn about being
a civilized housemate and we
have much to learn about finding new ways to help her do just that.
She is a very different dog than Rio was when he first came to live with us
but very dear to us already.
